about...

Ladybird is an Angloindian artist with a heart that beats to the rhythms and sounds of Italy. Now she is bringing her sound to you. Some call it alt-pop, some call it alt-rock, others call it vint-pop but Ladybird is refusing to be confined by genre boundaries, each song has its own meadow to run wild in.

Ladybird began singing at a young age taking roles in school plays and singing in the school and church choir. She attended Stage School and won many awards for spoken word prose and poetry recital. As a teenage she took lessons at the, then fledgling, Academy for Contemporary Music (ACM). She’s been penning lyrics as long as she can remember but they’ve all just sat, wingless, in the drawer with nothing to give them flight...until now.

Believing that music was something that ‘people like her’ didn’t ‘do’, she packaged up her dream, hid it away and tried to forget it ever existed; she tried hard to pursue an ordinary life, however the universe had determined that her life would be anything but ordinary.

In early 2002 she worked as a recovery chaplain at the World Trade Center following the terrorist attacks of 9/11 which left her with compromised lungs due to breathing in the toxic air which contained, among other things, minute particle of asbestos, doctors advised her that she may have life-long breathing trouble and may not be able to continue singing. However, she continued to sing, contributing backing vocals to local artists in Boston and New York, as well as leading worship in church.

Through her work as a freelance broadcaster specialising in the Eurovision Song Contest, she has formed friendships with many artists and songwriters over the years. In 2024 she provided some backing vocals for Rafa Ela’s (Luxembourg NF) single ‘Storm Clouds’. She continues to work as manager for Slavko (Montenegro 2017) and promotions support for Piqued Jacks (San Marino 2023). She is part of the DWB extended songwriters network where she hosted a networking event in Malmö during Eurovision 2024.

Ten years ago she and Matt Mortlock were cast together in Jacob’s Well Theatre Co’s production of ‘Pippin’, from there a friendship was born, and a creative partnership formed. With Matt as co-writer and producer, this Ladybird finally found some wings!

Well, the EP is pretty much recorded, there are a few teeny, tiny little bits of vocal to add, but everything is laid down for every song. The next two weeks will be an intense time of mixing. Trying to create just the right soundscapes for each song is the challenge here. No two songs are the same so you can’t simply cut and paste a mix, each instrument, each pad, each vocal needs it’s own attention and to be mixed with everything to create the aural waters in which it will swim.

Looking ahead though, the mastering is booked in with one of the world’s top mastering expert. I found Pete Maher by seeing his name as a credit on an album by some friends that I really love. I think it sounds absolutely beautiful with the mixing and mastering coming together with such synergy, producing a sound that elevates the talents of the artists and allows them to shine.

Beyond that, the release date is set for sometime in August of 2024, and then... well then, it’s up to you!
